VPN To Asia

Hi,
I have a question and wonder if someone has an answer or idea for me. I will be going to asia for almost a year on a contract. I am planing to create a secure VPN from my location here in the US to Hong Kong. What I like to find out is if any of you see a possibility how I could network my cable TV service to be extended. I have a dedicated T1 line on both sides and I wonder if there is any way to convert my Digital cable so I can send it through the T1 to Hong Kong and then reconvert it to be connected to an US TV. Theoretically these are just data so it should be possible. Did anyone ever hear on something that allows to do this? If so, any tip would be appreciated.

Best wishes,
Thom

Interesting project. I wonder if you would be better off considering a solution without the VPN tunnel. The VPN encryption will slow down the link. Where the data being transferred is not of a secure nature it is likely not necessary.

Hi,

Thanks for the pointers but what I try to do it to extend my network over the internet to asia so that the office there would be having access to the file server and applications on the server here in the US. I was thinking that once I have this I could also send my cable there. So I have comcast here and love my TV ;-) there are only signals coming trough the Comcast cable so I thought it theoretically must be possible to use this data tunnel it trough an internet connection to asia so that I have Comcast there as well. I know it is far fetched but it is just data so why could I not send them or stream them trough the net to an cable box further away.

Best wishes,
Thom
