Motherboard reboots when cd rom is hooked to it
I am installing a new motherboard (MSI KM4M-V), Processor (AMD Athlon XP 2200), and RAM (Kingston 512 MB). I can get it to POST with no hard drive connected to the IDE slot. I can get it to POST with the hard drive connected to the primary IDE slot. When I connect the cd-drive to the secondary IDE slot or slave it to the hard drive, I get no POST or constant rebooting. I have tried three different cd drives and two different IDE cables all with the same result. Any ideas?
Check the jumpers on both drives, to make sure they are configured correctly. Try the drives in another machine, to make sure they are working. Otherwise, a new motherboard has some chance of being broken, out of the box, and I would exchange it.
trusty old Callandor strikes again lol :)
Have you changed molex power connector to CD drive? I mean using a different connector.
check CD ROM without IDE cable, connect only power cable. again same problem that mean P/supply ( replace 350 or higher). if it works then could be IDE cable, check with another cable
i think change CD ROM jumper when it slave to primary slot (slave with hard drive)
can u send ur PC detail

Also if your motherboard supports sata make sure that you disable that in the bios and select PATA as the one to use and enhanced as you are using windows xp or 2000 or something simmiliar correct ?
Is this a new or an old motherboard, if it is new or even if it is old and still under warranty contact the manufacturer and see if you can get a replacement, at least that is what I would do, unless a bios update fixes that but it is very odd that the cd rom drive attached to it makes it reboot.
