IIS Website Suddenly Asking for Password?

Heres the problem,

I enabled SSL on a website, and suddenly (and I don't know if its directly related, or if its a coincidence) whenever we click on our .wss files, it asks for a username and password.  Anonymous access is enabled for all pages, so thats not the issue, and neither is NTFS file permissions, becasue those are all set correctly too.

The funny thing is that when it asks for a username and password, not even the administrator account of that machine will work.  So basically, there is no way of getting past this authentication, and no way of disabling it.

I am stumped, has anyone run across a similar problem before?

Hi TheTull,
Can you please confirm if all other files are being acessed using the SSL configuration, successfully?
Did you try accessing the website locally on the server? Can you please post the error message from the IIS log files.

What are the permissions on the directory and on the files in question?

IUSR_machine name IWAM_machine.  What web extensions are enabled (win2k3)?

Well, I can access any file via http or https, but even if i access the .wss files using SSL, it still asks for a password.

The IUSR_machine user has at least read permissions on all files and folders, and read & execute on most files.

As for web extensions, we have wc.dll extensions for sites that use those files, Front Page 2002 extensions are enabled, asp pages are enabled.  WebDAV is not enabled.  It is a 2003 server.

We are going to re-do our website using a new web server and all sorts of new cool stuff, thanks for the help though, I will distribute the points.
