Duplicate Names in the GAL due to miss-spelling

We have a user who was created in the AD and her Exchange address etc was set up fine. It was then discovered that her surname was spelt wrong. The IT guy on site created a new account for her and attempted to delete the old account. However the old account and mailbox are gone from the AD, but her name appears in the GAL with both surnames. Obviously only one works. This is the same in cached mode or non cache mode.

Is there a way to search the AD and remove any objects that no longer exist as there is obviously a reference to her miss-spelled name somewhere? Thanks
