Do I need to re-install XP Pro or can I recover, if so how (parallel install)?

3.4Ghz HT
SATA 2 x 160Gb (mirrored onboard ULi M1573 SB chipset)
XP Pro sp2
onboard ATI Radeon x300 GPU (share 64Mb)

Powered on using kb, came up to screen saying recomend to do drive consistency ck, press esc...etc.
I let it do the check. It found a bunch of files that it corrected. I can' remember what they were. it took a
few minutes. Then it finished and rebooted. I saw the XP splash screen, then my desktop w/ my mouse
cursor and nothing else. I can't ctl-alt-del, I have to power down. Safe mode is the same. Can't load to
command promt either.

Booted XP cd to recovery mode. I can access my partitions and the windows folder, but nothing else.
There is found.000 file from last night when hibernated and the hiberfil.sys file (469Mb) has this am time
when I powered on.
