Bad Sector Mapping

A WinXP Pro system started reporting "A disk read error occurred" during boot, and of course Windows would not load.  I installed the hard drive as slave in another computer, and during start up WinXP Pro recognized the slave drive but reported "File record segment 300 (then subsequent records continuously) is unreadable."  I tried reformatting the drive unsuccessfuly with WinXP, Partition Magic, and FDISK.  I then performed a read test with Micro-Scope 2005 that resulted in either "Uncorrectable CRC/ECC Error" or "Address Mark Not Found" starting at Head 55, Sectors 1-63, and continuing on.  I then performed a low-level format of the entire drive, however the bad sectors were not mapped out.  Is there something else I can try to map out the bad sectors and make the drive useable, or is the drive toast?

Have you tried a low level format of the drive?

Thank you for your input.  Yes, I've tried a low-level format.  I tend to agree with you that the best course of action is to simply replace the drive.
