inserting quotes into mysql

I want to insert user input directly into mysql, but also prevent SQL injection.

For example, if a user types """"""""" for theyre password, I want that to be stored in mysql.

$s= ' """""""""" ';

I'm using mysql_real_escape_string($s).. and it stores /"/"/"/"/"/"/"/"/" in mysql.  This is wrong.

What do I need to do?  Simplest solution please.
