We have a Mac OS X Jaguar on our Windows network.  Opening a network window shows folders labeled with the various Windows doamins, and opening up the primary domain folder reveals all the computers that are currently on the network.  The Mac can connect to computers on the local subnet without any difficulty (192.168.1.x) but when we try to access information on computers in the domain that are on other subnets (192.168.40.x for example) it fails with the following error message:  “the alias [COMPUTER-NAME] could not be opened, because the original item could not be found.”

Any thoughts?
