CD audio problem in Heretic 2 and Quake 1/2 - The music won't play

CD audio problem in Heretic 2 and Quake 1/2 - The music won't play

Quite recently I installed the following games on my Windows ME system with soundblaster live audio card:

Quake I (Open GL version 1.13)
Quake II
Heretic II (including the EP v1.06 patch)

The games function like they should, except for the CD audio; the sound effects and ambients work fine, but I don't hear any music, while the CD music option is turned on. All games are based on the same engine.

The games do recognize the audio CD's, because all the available tracks are listed, when I type the command "cd info" in the console. It even states which track is playing, although I don't hear anything. When CD audio is enabled and the games are trying to play a track, the light of my DVD/CD-rom player is constantly glowing. When I play audio CD's in winamp or other media players (I haven't experienced any problems with this), the light of my DVD/CD-rom player pulsates. I think the games may have trouble loading the MCI CD Audio driver, although this is just a wild guess.

According to Windows all my hardware (sound card etc.) should function correctly. I have a "Sony DVD RW DRU-700A" DVD/CD-rom player which I tried to use to play the tracks and a "Sony CDU 4811" CD-rom player. The games only recognize the DVD/CD-rom player which is the first CD-rom drive in my computer.

1. Double-click your volume icon and check whether some of the Audio output sources are muted.
2. Go into Device Manager, open the DVD/CDROM Drives and double-click the SONY CDU 4811 entry. Go into the Properties page and ensure that the "Enable Digital CD Audio...." option is selected.

Thanks for you quick reaction, but CD-audio was already enabled.

I just switched the drive letters of my DVD/Cd-rom devices. My SONY CDU 4811 is now the first Cd-rom drive instead of my Sony DVD RW DRU-700A. And with the other CD-rom drive CD-audio is working! I don't know why my DVD drive doesn't work with CD-audio in those games, since it has no trouble at all playing audio cd's when I use winamp.

Anyway, I feel kind of stupid, solving my own problem the same day I posted it on a forum.
NuclearTes: Good job. Now why didn't I think of that.....

Netminder: No objections, please close the question.
The solution is simple connect the audio cable from your cdrom drive to the sound card.Hope he gives me points
Well, my DVD drive is probably not connected to my soundcard. But the CD-rom drive is and that is the drive I'm using right now to have cd audio. I'm not sure if I can connect two drives to my soundcard, but since switching the drive letters was enough to solve my problem, I'm not going to open up my computer to find out. That would be kinda pointless and is a lot more work. I only meddle with the hardware itself when it's absolutely necessary, because I could cause serious damage to my computer with the limited knowledge of computer hardware I have .
