Hey Becom
If you want a board with many features such as Dual Channel DDR Ram, SATA, PCIe, and many others such as Overclocking features... go with premium// deluxe boards ... check out www.asus.com very reliable motherboard manufacturer carry very good boards. Or check out MSI or Abit.
If it were me, I would fork the extra money for a deluxe board with many features. Since you sound like you like AMD's, I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to an AMD Athlon 64 Bit Proccessor (very powerful) I would also geta board that has Dual Channel Ram. This will be a sinificant peroformance benefit. Also I would look into one of AsusTeks (www.asus.com) highend K8 Motherboards. Go to Products and Click on mothebroards and choose from there (Socket 754)
This is a good upgrade. If your getting the board with Dual channel, and PCI express, then make should you buy a PCIe video card. Other then that, I think that this would be a nice upgrade for you
Hope this helps, Cam

The first thing u should ask is:
- Forwhat do i want a computer for? CAD, games, office, etc.
If u want office then u should aim to the middle-bottom of the scale.
If u want CAD then u should aim to the middle-top of the scale.
If u are a gamer then by all means try to by the best machine that money can buy.
Remember that Sound Cards and other extras are "extras" and u can buy them later, so focus your atention to CPU, motherboard, RAM and Video Card. Notice the order of them, usually people dont upgrade their machine until its a piece of junk, and by that time there are no parts available or it doesnt compensate.

Do you really need that much ram? If ya do I say go for it ... but if your just using it for office / gaming , you should be fine with a 1 gig stick.
