EXTREMELY URGENT: Maxtor OneTouch USB drive + Ghost 8 / Drive Image 7 = Headache.

Dear experts, this is extremely urgent hence big points, here are the ingredients for my current problems;

- Maxtor OneTouch 250 GB (USB 2.0)
- A computer with USB 2.0 ports
- Ghost 8 / Drive Image 7 (Bootable - Installation in Windows is not an option)

Preferably, Ghost 8 is the application I would like to use to image the internal HDD to a Maxtor OneTouch 250 GB.
I have partitioned OneTouch 250 GB down to one 15 GB partition.  Boot computer with Ghost 8 (Also tried DI.7)
, DI 7 failed to recognise the drive all together.

Ghost 8 (Booted to DOS) recognises the Maxtor on the screen that let me choose which drive to copy from, but the
Maxtor entry on that screen is grey-out, not selectable (It shows up at 250 GB, though I have partitioned it to 15 GB
FAT32).  The internal HDD was available to be selected so I selected it because I want to image the internal drive
to the Maxtor drive for future deployment, but when time comes to choose a location to save the image, Maxtor
drive then no longer available from the drop-down list.

Here are the limitations for the experts to take into account in case someone comes up with workarounds that would
not be possible in our cases:

- NO additional HDD can be (and WILL NOT be) added to the computer.
- PCI USB cards CANNOT and WILL NOT be added to the computer.
- ONLY Ghost 8 or Drive Image 7 CAN BE and WILL BE used.
- Using network as a mean of backup is NOT AN OPTION.

Thank you in advanced for your help!  I really wish I could give more than 500 points.

That's why I swapped Ghost for Acronis True Image... :(
You should also try it, at least... and find what you've been missing.

I have the same type of drive you have and I used Max Blast 4.0 here is a link for you to download the software.

To scrathcyboy:
How do I setup bootdisk with USB driver?  Do I drop .sys file (which is driver file isn't it?) on floppy, and modify something in autoexec.bat to load up that .sys file as driver?  Then how is Ghost or other software going to recognise that driver?  Please explain in more details so some testing could be performed.

To vdavid23:
Sorry mate, I don't understand how this can resolve my problem, there is nothing mentioned about booting into imaging software and image a normal HDD to USB HDD on the page either (I checked the Maxtor site which is in English).
Max Blast 4.0 makes an exact image of your current hard drive, so if C: drive fails you can swap to this drive and it will boot just like your C: Drive did before it crashed        I used this software to recover my server in a hurry when I needed it too because I do web hosting and I can"t afford to have my server down at all>
I am on to trying something, but I need this file: di1000dd.sys and I cannot find it anywhere for real download, all the links are broken.  Anyone has it or know where it is please share, thank you.

To vdavid23:
Sorry mate, but that solution may not work for me because this will be used for deployment in a highly strict and controlled environment, and for a reason, MaxBlast 4 is not always going to be used or available and the image will not always be restored from Maxtor drive once the image has been created.

One big question =) if I use Panasonic's or Ghost's (Actually Iomega) USB drivers (which they claim to be USB 2.0 / supports USB 2.0).  What sort of speed will I get if I use it on computer with USB 2.0, would it just allow me to use USB 2.0 HDD at USB 1.x speed or 2.0 speed?
If they claim to be 2.0 - I suppose you should get 2.0 speed.
Or else, you'll be in for a loooooong time reading the image file.
Anyone can confirm this please?
I believe I almost have my question answered, I got my self these three files:

usbaspi.sys (Panasonic USB driver)
DI1000DD.SYS (Mhai... something something driver for mass storage..)
Usbaspi.sys
USBCD.SYS

I added these files to a Ghost 8 boot disk I created with Ghost BootWizard the modified config.sys and autoexec.bat and I am not certain whether there are problems in the config.sys and autoexec.bat or not as I am not very DOS literate:

Autoexec.bat:
---------------
SET TZ=GHO-10:00
MOUSE.COM
echo Insert Ghost boot disk 2 with Ghost.exe
pause

if exist a:\ghost.exe goto GHOSTFND

echo Ghost boot disk 2 was not in the drive or Ghost.exe was not found...
echo Terminating Ghost booting process...
goto END

:GHOSTFND
GHOST.EXE  -forceusb -force1394
goto END

:END

Config.sys:
------------
[config.sys]
DOS=HIGH,UMB
lastdrive=Z

device=HIMEM.SYS
devicehigh=USBASPI.SYS /v /w /e
devicehigh=DI1000DD.SYS
devicehigh=USBCD.SYS /d:USBCD001

rem Ghost 8 defaults
DEVICE = aspi2dos.sys
DEVICE = aspi8dos.sys
DEVICE = aspi4dos.sys
DEVICE = aspi8u2.sys

---------------------------

Spot any mistakes anywhere?
Since nobody is going to add anymore inputs I will start giving the points then, but if anyone comes up with answers please add some more, thank you.
