asked on

What is a RUNDLL message ( "Error loading p2esocks_1023.dll")

Everytime I restart my computer I get the following RUNDLL pop-up message:

"Error loading p2esocks_1023.dll
The specified module could not be found"

1) What does it mean ?

2) How do I resolve the issue about the missing "specified module" ?

Grateful for help !

Greetings, cross-ways !

p2esocks_10223.dll is part of an adware. Check for virus and adware

Housecall Online Scan
http://housecall.antivirus.com
or
Panda Activescan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
or
Symantec Security Check

SpyBot S&D searches your harddisk for so-called spy- or adbots;

or
Adaware

or
Trojan Hunter

or

3. If still no joy, download HijackThis

Run the program and you will find many entries. Most are OK. Post the log at http://www.hijackthis.de/ and click Analyse, Save.  Post a link to the saved list here.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the suggstions war1 !

I have downloaded some of the software you suggested + done the scans + found some stuff + deleted/fixed it...but the DLL Error message still comes up when I restart the computer.

Is there any to get rid of the issue ? (anyone please !)

Hans
Hi cross-ways,

The registry entry of that file is probably still present and is still calling for the dead file that could be what's causing the error.
Mind doing what war1 suggested by letting us see your HJT log by posting the link here?
The problem is that the file may have been deleted with one of our previous fixes, and there is a call out of it in a file.  Delete your temp files. Use CCleaner to remove them

http://www.ccleaner.com

Perform a search for the file in the folders, win.ini file and in the registry.

I just wanted to say I had the same issue and this was the first item from my google search. The responses have saved me quite a bit of time. I found my .dll issue after running Ad-Aware and made the mistake of removing it completely prior to  reboot, thus I could not restore and then remove the problematic call program directly first. Hence, I will now run through the HJT hoops and clean it with that assistance. (Actually, I am trying to clean a friends 'puter and would probably end up doing that anyway.) Regardless, I thank all who replied, my answer was immediate and I didn't have to bug anyone. HAppy New Years to all!
Thanks turn123 and PaQ_MAN!
