Office Instant Messenger

    I'm looking for a software that acts like an office meesenger.. like yahoo or msn messenger...
Requirements are that it should be limited to the staff and it should always be online.. I mean that people just log on and see everybody online and you don't have to add friends......
Also it should be cheap :-)

I really love jabber.. but the only problem is that i have to setup a server... which doesn't work very well for me..
Points upped becauset it is urgent

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Just to add

A LAN messenger won't do because of having multiple locations....

If anyone knows how to get a free jabber server or if anyone knows how to get a really cheap one it'd be helpful.

You can use Microsoft net meeting (free with XP and 2000) you can start it by click int Start -> run and typing conf
If you don't use a directory server you will have to address each person by there computer name or IP address, but thankfuly Microsoft provides ILS server in Windows 2000+ server and non server OS (I bleive it's listed as site server or something like that in the add remove windows features).

Only problem with netmeeting is security (or lack there of), so if this is a closed network and security is not a great concern this will work.

I don't know about any free chat servers but check out;

Chat Blaze

I can give you some more in the morning as I've been testing many chat servers/ clients for my network.

Good luck
