Cisco 1700 series IOS?

I have a few simple questions regarding the Cisco 1700 series router (Model 1721).

1) What IOS does this router have out of the box?
2) What IOS does the 2600 series have out of the box?
2) What is the current IOS available for both the 1700 and 2600 series?
3) How do you upgrade the IOS and is it a free upgrade? What is the link (more specific than cisco.com lol)?
4) Is the command line the same for the 1700 series and the 2600 series?

Hi Trihimbulus,

The version of the IOS you get on your Cisco router depends on several factors, like what options you have installed, what you will be using the router to do (i.e. VPN, VoIP, Firewall, Etc.).  Cisco has just  released version 12.4 of the IOS; however, you will need a  CCO account that has a valid service contract associated with it in order to download the IOS.

A good starting point is:

http://cisco.com/public/support/tac/tools.shtml

The Software Advisor will help you choose the functions that you need from the router and suggest the appropriate version of the IOS.

Good luck!
Steve
