System restore on a different hardware

Hi Experts,

I have an old server running server 2000, active directory and different applications and this server can crash at any time because the hardware is very old. Is it possible to tansfer every thing from this server to a new server having completely different hardware? The data and acticve directory transfer is quit easy but the main problem is to transfer all the programs and applications running on the server. I know its very difficult to do if we take the complete system backup and restore it on a different hardware because some times the system doesn't even boot in Safe mode as well. I know one company NRD and they say that they can replicate all the data, programs and appliactions and active directory from my server to their server and if my server crashes they will give me the replica server with every thing up and running on it, but the solution is very expansive. Can you pls advise me if there is any alternate way to achieve this target.

Thanks,
Impex.

Typically, your answer is no.  You could try Symantec LiveState, but it's not cheap.

What do you expect to fail at any moment?  I run most of my servers on old Dual CPU P3s at home.  I have no concerns about reliability - other than perhaps the disks failing.  So if that's your concern, replace the disks.
