Simple question about google's indexing.

Why is there no description under the URL when I do this in google, like other sites have:

site:www.im a  ginep rofiles . c om

NOTE: (please remove the spaces and don't reference the URL as it's a new site and I don't wish this KB article appearing on google).

Is it because I don't have correct descriptions, meta tags etc?

What could I do to improve my ranking with this website?

Thanks in advance.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

google relies on links from sites to other sites.
so, the more links point to your site, the more chances you have to get seen by those indexing bots.

addition: the meta tags you define in your pages will help the indexing bots to classify the site.

what's the best way to get sites to link to you?
Guy Hengel [angelIII / a3]Billing EngineerCommented:
ask the webmasters of other sites (typically in the same area) to add the link to you on their site, and you offer to put their site link in your link's page of your site.
This is usually done, of course not for sites that are concurrents.

---> "it's a new site"

When I tried looking for your site in Google, understandably, nothing was produced. If your site is new, it can take Google many months to index your site completely and properly.

Also, when your ready to start indexing your site, sumbit it manually to DMOZ, and use Google SiteMaps (https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login) to get a quick and effective indexing of your site for Google.

Then, as you start to establish an SEO strategy, do as AngelIII has suggested and begin seeking backlinks.

To improve your ranking, there is a lot of work to do to get your site to the top and keep it there.... Check out http://www.seo-guy.com/tutorial.html -- this will help you to learn the basics such as the code on your pages to other important topics.

>> what's the best way to get sites to link to you?

distributing content related to your site, such as blogs articles, posts, etc are a good way to get content related links back to your site.  also, making sure that your site is relevant and related to the information in your description.
