why am I unable to start the FILE REPLICATION SERVICE on a domain controller?
running a windows server 2003 domain
I can't start the file replication service on one of my domain controllers. Every time I try, it INSTANTLY responds w/ "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
As as result of this, the other direct replication partners are logging 13508 in the event viewer.

First thing I would check is to make sure all of your other services started OK. Did this problem just start, or has it always been this way?

all of the services that this service depends on have started perfectly.
apperently this has been going on since 12/20/2005 according to the event viewer.

The problem may not be tied to FRS' dependencies. I've seen a stuck service that is appears totally unrelated to a given service still manage to wreak havoc. Make sure none of your services are stuck in the 'Starting' stage.

I actually did find that the messenger service was in the "starting" state. But after stopping it and restarting it. It went to the "started" state.
But I still get the same error when I try to start the file replication service
