troubleshooting Question

user cannot recieve reply's from external users

Hi this is probably an easy question to answer. But I cannot figure out why users have mail prefix added to there email(user@mail.domain.com) so when reciepents reply to the user it does not get there the proper syntax should be user@domain.com
but all users in my domain have this added to there accounts I can change the SMTP address however it creates another address with this format please gift me with your infinit wisdom oh wise ones.
