switches battery backup

Do switches such as EF-linksys (24 port), dell switches (24 port) need battery backup? I have a switch that seems to fail becuase of power problem. thanks

If your power is poor a UPS would be recommended for stability.  All infrastructure hardware should have UPS support.

I can only imagine files being corrupted by loss of ethernet connection.

It really doesn't hurt and really doesn't hurt stability also.  The only anoynance is probably when you are using the computer the power goes out.  This looks like it's for residential propose.  If this is a commerical then I would definitely get a rack-mountable UPS, but in your case worst case scanario just turn off the switch when you are not using it.

Thank you for the comments. I got small batteries for those switches. but why did one of the switches died for a power outage. was it the switch that was bad or was it because of the electricity.

Sounds like a bad switch, maybe overheating shut it down.

How old is the UPS?  It may perhaps sent a small surge of power that blew out the switch.  How old is the switch, it may be it was his time to go.

I just got the UPS after Chris pointed out the  corrupted files by lossing ethernet connection. but I was wondering about why the switch gone like that before I got the ups. Thank you all for the comments
