Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange server computer...

We are running MS Exchange 2003 and MS Outlook 2000.

When sending an email with no attachment, it sends.  The email is received.
When sending an email with a small attachment (such as a notepad file), it sends.  The email is received.
When sending an email with a larger attachment (such as 1MB or larger), it gives the following error:
"Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange server computer..."

The same thing happened on two different PCs on the same network/domain.

Any ideas?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Something scanning the attachment is causing a long enough delay, outlook thinks it can't get to the exchange server. do you have antivirus software scanning each message as it is sent?  That's most likely the culprit.   You may be able to change how that program scans, or in outlook you can adjust the server connection timeout setting to allow more time.
