What does .textContent mean?

I saw this function on EE. My question is what does " adrs[i].textContent" refer to in this line:

txt+='\n'+(adrs[i].text)? adrs[i].text: adrs[i].textContent ;

function getAddresses() {
  var adrs = document.getElementById('x').getElementsByTagName('emailaddress')
  var txt =""
  for (i=0;i<adrs.length;i++) txt+='\n'+(adrs[i].text)? adrs[i].text: adrs[i].textContent ;

<body onLoad="getAddresses()">
<xml id="x">

adrs[i] is an array object

.textContent is a variable within that object.

Neither the object or variable are defined anywhere in what you have there, so can't tell you anymore about what they're supposed to do or contain.

You're missing stuff.

That function just returns the text of the object such as a cell or something. Like if there were htmls tags, they would be removed and you would just get the text
Furthering that point is say that adrs[i] contained:

the function would only return Hello World
