Takes to long to log onto the network
I have a windows 2003 server on my network and several PCs as clients, when i log onto the server it takes ages to log on even with a new profile.
PS, Is the server pointing to itself for DNS lookups?
ASKER
No its logging onto the workstations, I have no dns setting in the workstations, only dhcp
My router is setup to give fixed IP addresses and these are entries in the dns server
Its a bit confusing as my router is acting as a DHCP server and a gateway for the internet
I am not an expert with servers etc what is dynamic dns registration?

Are you running a domain? If so, This is likely where your problem is stemming from. No issue with your router acting as a dhcp server or gateway but it needs to tell the workstations that they should look to the server for local dns rather than the router itself.

Yes I am running a domain
Ok thanks for that, is there any way i can put a setting into group policy for the domain so every workstation has the server IP address (for the dns) in when i join the workstations to the domain?

You on UK time?
ASKER
Yes working in IT 47 hours a week
Ok, I'm on UK time as well. Should be home about 7 if you need some help with it.
If you are using Roaming Profiles and a user has ALOT of STUFF in thier profile, that would be an issue as well.
DNS is a good start as mentioned by Kieth.

John

Please confirm that the work stations TCPIP settings have the DNS entries set to point to your server IP address.
Are you allowing dynamic dns registrations from the workstations?
