VMware Guest OS can’t detect DVD-RW

Despite having added my new DVD-RW device to the virtual machine settings in VMware, the guest OS cannot detect this device after I powering the OS on. Instead it redetects the same OLD CD-RW again.

The host OS, however, detected correctly both devices.

Both OSs are Windows XP professional.

How can I solve the problem ?

Hi tedhill,
have you tried a re installation of VMWARE?

tedhillAuthor Commented:
I can't do that.

I have installed other 3 OS guests in it and I spended a huge amount of time installing software, etc.

There must exist a less "dramatic" solution.

Was not taking that into account le me see what I can do on refreshing one instance of VMWARE
HAve you enabled legacy device support on the cd rom device?

Also which version of VMware - this was a problem on version 4 but version 5.5 seems to have fixed it.

- why cant you reinstall vmware - you wont lose your created VMware machines - just reinstall the application.
