DLINK DWL-G630 not working in HP Pavilion ze4800 - Error ID (10)
Hi,
I have the above wireless pcmcia card which works fine on my other laptops but not the ze4800. I bought the laptop preinstalled with windows xp, I upgraded to SP2 and it is fully up to date.
When I insert the card into the laptop nothing happens, no lights or add hardware wizard. I have entered the Computer Management section in Administrative Tools - in Event Viewer, System I have the following Error every time I insert the card:
The description for Event ID ( 10 ) in Source ( Pcmcia ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: \Device\Pcmcia0.

Error ID: 10
I have the most up to date drivers from DLink but when I install the software I am not even prompted to insall the drivers. When trying to manually install the drivers I get the message that the driver I select does not match my hardware (???).
I hope someone can help here, I have been troubled by this for some time now.
Many thanks
Keith.

Hi,
Sorry, should've mentioned that - the only other card I have is another wireless network card a Safecom. This one doesn't work in the slot either.
Device Manager is showing that the PCMCIA Adapter is:
Texas Instruments PCI-1410 CardBus Controller
and that is working fine on IRQ11
Additional info:
PCI bus 0, device 10, function 0
Cheers

Thanks, rid. I'll leave the thread open if you don't mind until I've tried both. I am looking to get a firewire/USB2 pcmcia card very soon so that will be the first part of the test. Failing that I will download Knoppix.

Leave it open by all means. There may be better ideas around for troubleshooting this. Good luck!

On the Windows bar, click Start, click Help & Support, click Troubleshooting.
Click Software Setup.
Click the plus sign next to Select Hardware Enabling Drivers to expand the list of drivers.
Place a check in the box next to the WLAN Driver Installer option.
Clear the check marks in the boxes next to all other software option.
Click Install and follow the instructions to reinstall the driver. Your notebook will restart and the wireless network should begin working again.

Hi ddrdan,
I can't seem to find the troubleshooting option after clicking H&S. I have tried searching on the other things you mention but I'm not getting any relevant results... any ideas?
Cheers

Ok, I put in the original CD that came with the laptop and found the software setup. I checked only the WLAN box, restarted but still nothing.
