How do I connect my iPod to Windows Media Player?

I can see the iPod as an external drive, but not the music on it.  Is there any way to manage an iPod using Windows Media Player the way that iTunes does?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Windows Media Player does not natively support synching with any of the iPod line of players and likely never will. There are a few third-party solutions designed to bypass iTunes as an interface for your iPod.

At the moment, the best option for integrating iPod synchronization with Windows Media Player is XPlay. The software costs $29.95 but you can try it for free from the link yukele has posted above.

If you want, you can try a free program called MediaMonkey:

This offers another way to sync files to an iPod without using iTunes.

Hope this info. helps!
