I have encounter a problem  when trying to send mail using outlook to a lotus notes client. However, when i try to send mail to other address, there is no problem. Based on error received, it gave a error code 10053.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

10053 and 10503 errors can happen with certain versions of Norton Antivirus 2004. An update released in December 2004 caused Norton Antivirus to drop POP3 connections that passed through it intermittently
A bugfix was released by Symantec - see here for more information. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001060516275506?OpenDocument&src=hot&prod=Norton%20AntiVirus&ver=2004%20for%20Windows%202000/Me/98/XP&csm=no&tpre=

Forcing LiveUpdate to download all the latest updates seems to fix the problem for most people with this particular problem.

Thanks for the reply. However, I am using mcafee antivirus. It seems that the problem only arise for a particular domain address. All other email adress works fine. The recipent is using lotus notes with domino server while I am using outlook with exchange server. I am not sure if it is a problem between outlook and lotus notes sending & receivng. Thanks.

if you find no solution here cwtang , by all means do please give it some time for others to make suggestions..
there is a page however here at EE dedicated to Lotus Notes/Domino Resource Channel
I think it is somewhat coinsidental that it's to a Lotus Notes address.  He's not trying to "connect" to Lotus notes just e-mail a Lotus user.

A couple things...  does your company have/use Outlook Web access?   have you tried sending an e-mail to this Lotus user via that way?

Turn off your realtime antivirus just to test...send again, does it work now?
