Restrict incoming e-mails on Exchange with only 2 ip's

Hi,

We have a 3rd party spam service that filters all e-mail from spam, viruses before sending it on to our exchange server.  The 3rd party recommends that we lock down exchange to only accept e-mail from their ip addresses they have provided us with.

I just want to make sure I am putting the info in the correct space.   I have see the delivery restrict tab in Exchange 2003 but am not 100% sure that's what I need.      I would just like to tell Exchange "hey only accept e-mail from these 2 ip's addresses...anything else reject it.

Thanks!
Monty

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What you are looking for is the "Connection control" feature of the SMTP service inside Exchange.
Use the Exchange System Manager > Servers > YOURSERVER > Protocols > SMTP > Virtual Defaultserver for SMTP > Properties of the Virtual Defaultserver for SMTP. Then go to the "Access" tab and click on "Connection" in the "Connection control" section. There you will probably want to switch from granting access to "All exept the list below" with an empty list to "Only the list below" with the two IP addreses added to the list.

Great!  That helps out a lot.   Whenever I make the change, does that take affect real time or will I need to restart any services at all?

Thanks,
Monty

Should be real time but you can stop and restart hte virtual defaultserver for SMTP by right-clicking on it in the Exchange System Manager.
