Make a Windows 2K3 server a new child domain DC to an existing windows 2000 parent domain
Hi,
We have a parent company who are running windows 2000 AD domain forest. We need to create a child domain to that existing parent domain configuration using windows 2003 servers as the child domain DCs (domain controllers)
Can this be done?

you only need to run those tools if you are upgrading a 2000 DC to 2003 not if you are just adding a DC in, the 2003 DC will just be capped to 200 capability

hmm have read the same post numerous times but have still managed to succesfully add 2003 DC's into a 2000 Forest
Before introducing a Windows 2003 Domain in a Windows 2000 forest, you need to upgrade the schema of the existing 2000 forest by running "adprep /foresetprep" off the windows 2003 CD on the Schema Master domain controller, logged in as a Schema Admin. After running the forestprep, give adequate time for replication to occur. Then you can go ahead & bring in a new Windows 2003 child domain.
Note: Since you are bring an entire new windows 2003 domain in windows 2000 forest. You do not need to perform the "adprep /domainprep" in the existing windows 2000 domain. If you want to bring a Windows 2003 DC to an existing Windows 2000 domain, then you need to perform the domainprep procedure.
Feel free to post any suggestions or queries.
