Cannot ping servers public IP or the associated domain
I have a server in my office that I can't seem to ping from the Internet. This PC is a Citrix server among other things, and it is operational in that regard. In fact I can communicate to the server via Terminal Services and Citrix, using the public IP address 66.135.6.166 or a domain name mail.nationalbp.com, but I cannot ping either of those names. I am a networking novice, so I was wondering if anyone would explain the above to me.
Eventually I would like to connect a notebook PC to mail.nationalbp.com for Exchange/Outlook mail downloading (using RPC over HTTP). My outlook client can't find the server. Thanks in advance, g. gordon

Ping uses a different network protocol (ICMP) than Citrix does (TCP). Since you can connect via citrix, you know the routing is good. I would guess that your firewall is blocking the ping requests. It may also be blocking your outlook client too.
