Exporting from Adobe Illustrator10 as a SWF - Loses some elements??

I downloaded an AI file from the net. When I export as a SWF and then import into Flash, some elements are missing, for example say it's a picture of a persons face, the eyes and teeth might be missing in Flash.

Not sure why this would be, it happens quite a lot. What can I try?

I am not creating this, it is downloaded

it seems to have no logic e.g. top row of teeth and bottom row are on 2 seperate layers. In Flash the bottom row come accross fine, the top dont

for anyone who wants to try the file in question, I have uploaded here:

http://www.metaphase.co.uk/sample.zip

Load this EPS into AI, the export as a SWF. just viewing the swf at that stage shows the missing bits.

it looks fine in AI, but on export he loses some teeth and some hair, but why ??

gump2k,

You can just import the eps file instead of converting it. That seems to work. If it doesn't, here's someting that works for me in CS1 and Flash 8:

Instead of exporting the eps file to swf, select it and drag it onto the flash button on your toolbar. Don't release your mouse button until you are in flash and place it where you want it on the screen.

Came through fine either way.

Heres the extent of my testing so far, nothing works successfully yet :(
Using Flash MX, and AI10

1) Loading EPS into Illustrator the exporting as a SWF - some elements missing as originally shown.

2) Importing the EPS straight into flash using File>Import - Error "The EPS file was not completely understood" and only a few blobs of colour appear. Same with imprt to library

3) Load EPS into Illustrator, Control-A to select all, then copying and pasting onto the Flash stage - Nothing appears (apart from I think an empty symbol)

4) Dragging the actual EPS file from the desktop directly into the Flsh window on the stage - Get an "Embedding OLE objects is unsupported" error.

5) Load EPS into Illustrator, Control-A to select all the drag the artwork into an open Flash window - Nothing appears

Is there some way I can flatten the image in AI so it is just 1 layered vector. Perhaps this would work?

Any other ideas?

Take a look here:

Looks like you may have to go through several steps to get this to work, if it will work at all.

Best,

I read that article, and tried a few things but nothing worked.

My only hope is to use a bitmap and Trace it in Flash, not ideal.

gump2k,

Your best bet would be  upgrading to Flash 8. As I noted above, importing the EPS file in Flash 8 works great. If you can swing it, you won't be disapointed. Flash 8 is full of useful tools.

If ou've got nothing but time, you could separate everything out and export it one at a time. In looking at that illustration, it would probably take you a week. But it might be easier than tracing bitmaps in Flash.

Best,
MH
