Hi, all.

We had some trouble with a pc, possibly OS related, so we replaced the hard drive and reinstalled XP Pro from scratch, including service pack 2.  Everything seemed OK; d/l the latest drivers from dell.  this is a dimension 2350 with 768 meg of ram and it now has a 200 gig hard drive.

if you go into control panel, system, hardware manager, everything looks fine.  but go to control panel, sounds, and it says no audio device.  called dell, d/l and installed the latest bios, firmware, drivers, etc, and nothing.  he says its the sound card.  so we figure we can replace it.  we find a sound card in inventory (sound blaster live), disable the on board sound card, and install it.  XP finds it, installs it, and we reboot.

exactly same result - hardware manager says its there and working; control panel/sounds is still stupid.  i'm thinking of trying yet another sound card, but i don't think that's the answer.  anyone see this before?  anyone got a fix for this?

thanks!!!!!
