i have a network of about 100 PC's of varying quality and age.  Were running 100Mb full duplex switches and the router is also 100/full.  Once in a while i run into an older computer that has crap speed on the network/ internet.  Dropping the NIC down to 10Mb/half duplex ALWAYS fixes the problem.  This was a trick i learned from a call center I used to work at, but I never really understood why it worked and what were the consequences, if any.  Basically Im worried that theres a problem on my network that im not recognizing and by changing the NIC speed on these computers im only making things worse.  Any ideas?
