video adapter fails

hi there,

I have this one computer that shuts off at the monitor after standby. It usually happens when left for a while, but when users come to the computer and bring it out of stand by, the light turn on, on the monitor but there is no display. The interesting thing is that when you restart the computer everytthing is fine.

Please help.

It's most likely a problem with Windows. Unfortunately the only solution to such low-level hardware  problems is to reinstall. I would recommend you turn of standby (not much use for a desktop computer except to save energy, if that's expensive where you live..)

1/ Right-click on the desktop (not an icon) and select Properties
2/ Go into ScreenSaver tab.
3/ Press the "Power" button below the screensaver configuration.
4/ Change "system standby" to "never"

This should not bother you again unless you reinstall windows and the problem re-emerges...

Linux will do the same.  Just hit a key, either Enter or the right arrow key and the display should slowly light back up.
