What is the extra slot for on pciexpress mobo

Hi
I know this is mabe a dumb question but what is the small pci expess slot for on my mobo,
and is it the one they call pcix 1 or something simlar?

The X means PCI-X 64-bit/133MHz capable

it is probably a pci-e x1 not a pci-x

Most times the PCI express slot is used for a video card on a standard home computer though it can have more uses.  It is the latest technology which will eventually replace AGP slots.

Good lead to beginers pci express. on first thread.
Second thread was to developers sight, the only thing I'm good at developing these days is a headache.
Ok from what I could gather its going to replace the old pci slots with newer wider band width. I take it that there are not any components for this slot at the moment.
