HELP!!!! Cannot view mail in OWA but can view mail on the user's outlook 2003 mailbox. Is there a way to make the e-mail viewable in both OWA and the user's outllook?

Here is my toughest question yet Experts,

This is on SBS 2000/exchange 2000 standard and outlook 2003 on XP Pro SP2:  One user out of many can view her e-mail on her MS outlook 2003 mail box [jane doe].  Though when that user accesses her mailbox via Outlook Web Access, she cannot view any of her e-mails just her sub folders that she has created in her inbox.

Last night I could view all her e-mails via OWA but, i could not view it via her MS outlook 2003 mailbox, so to fix that i transferred all of her e-mail to a .pst 97-2002 file and then transferred all of her e-mail from the .pst to her mailbox on her MS outlook 2003.  So i went from BEING able to view her mail via OWA and not being able to view her e-mail on her MS outlook 2003 to, now not being able to view her E-mail via OWA but, BEING able to view her e-mail via her mailbox on her MS outlook 2003.

I really hope there is a solution to this being that she will go remote again tomorrow,

Many Many Thanks,

Ellsworth

She hasn't simply selected the 'Unread Messages' view from the drop-down list at the top of the OWA screen?  Happens a ~lot~ .

Have a look in Exchange System Manager to see how many items it thinks is in the mailbox.  You never know, they may still be in the .pst .

If you couldn't open it in Outlook to start with, did you use ExMerge?  I hope you're not confusing two different mailboxes here.

Thank you both very much for replying so quickly,

Simon,

"Define Cannot View">>  When looking at OWA, I can see the subfolders she has made in the past under her inbox, but there are no e-mails being listed with in her inbox or with in her subfolders.  When looking at her MS outlook 2003 inbox (under her mailbox account on the exchange server), i see her subfolders and i see her e-mail messages.  I'm not referring to two different mailboxes just two different methods of viewing e-mail in which the OWA method is not displaying any e-mails, just subfolders.

"Can see the list of email messages? Trying to open one of the messages brings a blanks scree?">> I cannot open any e-mails being that there are no e-mails being displayed to open from OWA.  Her e-mails are only viewalbe by MS outlook 2003.

I will try your suggestion.

LeeDerbyshire,

"She hasn't simply selected the 'Unread Messages' view from the drop-down list at the top of OWA screen?">>  I have tried all of her possible views and none of them display any of her e-mails that are from earlier than today.  I have checked her pst and there are no items with in the inbox or subfolders.   No I did not use exmerge to view the files in outlook i just trasnferred them to a .pst 97-2002 file and then retransferred them back to her mailbox via MS outlook 2003..

"I hope you're not confusing two different mailboxes here.">>  These are not two different mailboxes, but yet they are two different methods of viewing e-mail messages and the OWA method is not displaying any e-mails(other than the e-mails she received today) that can be viewed by MS outlook 2003.

FYI:  the e-mail that she has received today are not able to be opened by MS outlook 2003, error: (0x80040107)  could not open the item try again.

Thank you both very much for you replies,

Ellsworth
The only thing I can imagine here is if the server is somehow unable to transfer messages between the EDB and the STM files.  Although I've never actually heard of such a thing happening.  Is there anything in any of your Event Logs?
LeeDerbyshire,

The applicaiton event logs reported with the following:  Error 1085, Some data referred to the code page 50220 that is currently not supported by the operating system.

Install support for this language in the Regional Option in the Windows 2000 Control Panel.

For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

Does this mean that an e-mail came in with a different language?

Are there any security features or permissions of mailboxes or protocols that could keep the e-mails from being viewed by .stm and not the .edb or vice versa?

Many Thanks,

Ellsworth
LeeDerbyshire,

I noticed one more event:  event ID 1, The Exchange IFS failed to map drive ?:. Please free drive ?: to use Exchange IFS.

For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

I made a registry edit that takes away the M from the M: drive so it cannot be accessed in My computer.

Thanks Lee,

Ellsworth
Believe me, the EDB/STM thing is a wild guess.  There will be no security features that will make this happen deliberately.

You shouldn't need the M: drive, but undoing the change you made has to be worth a try.

There's an MS article about the code page thing here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/150977/EN-US/

Code page 50220 is Japanese (JIS):

Lee,

I deleted the users mailbox and then re created it and i was able to get all of the e-mail back up into the mailbox and it is viewable via OWA and the users MS outlook 2003 but, now she cannot send or receive from the new mailbox.  It doesn't give her an error or anything and outlook and OWA act as though the e-mails have been sent but the recipients are not receiving the e-mails and everytime i try to e-mail her i get the system administrator delivery report saying that the e-mail address doesn't exsist.  Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Ellsworth

That is exactly what i did last time.  Also I noticed our e-mail virus scanner is being problematic and she can send e-mails thouhg the only people that can send her e-mails are the people that she has sent an e-mail to as of today.  I think the anti virus is screwing things up.

Thanks Lee,

Ellsworth
If that didn't work, I don't know else to suggest.  If you do have an AV scanner playing tricks with Exchange, then you can expect just about anything to go wrong.  I would disconnect your Exchange server from the Internet for a while, and try turning it off while you try to recreate the mailbox.  Or just try a different AV scanner.  Trend ScanMail and Sybari Antigen both have a good reputation.
