One user at office having a w2k pro with office 2000 found that edit functions in word were greyed out. Keyboard shortcuts did not work either. However all these work if someone else logs in. The user however has the functions on other computers. Appreciate if anyone here could help.

Hi bruintje,

Carried out the suggestions above. Renamed the whole lot of Normal.dot files and did the registry edit. No joy. on top of it Winfax failed to work when trying to attach a document for sending. Had to undo the registry part.

I also tried winword /a as well as a detect and repair. No viruses in the system, No adware found (it's not even connected to the internet). Service packs are ok. Anything else I could try???

Thanks in advance

what happens if you goto tools | on the first tab toolbars choose reset and on the third tabe reset my usage data

No luck. still there, or rather still "not" there. I do see the message that this will not change any "explicit customizations". We do not have any of those internally. And the user does'nt know what happened or how it happened either. It worked the day before but not on thefollowing day. No new softwares/updates installed either.

not sure what you did in the registry but if you go to the key

you could backup then delete the settings key for example, it will be recreated after restarting word and have the default settings i do not think it will do anything to installed addins

i've really no good idea at this point and hope someone comes along with a bright idea, and will monitor what happens here

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay in getting back. Re read the entire post again. In your first post, Bruintje the link had several options including reinstallation. That worked.

Thanks for the help.
