mouse hardware

Hope im in the right place for this question.The last month or so i have been having problems with my mice,i have tried different ones all do the same blinking slow my logitech mx1000 laser my microsoft intelli and others they all work fine on my computer xp just stopped working on my wifes 98se logitec and other companys says its a hardware problem i guess it has to be can anyone help with this never had problem with mice before but.Let me know if you need anymore info Billy alias billster

...or were they com port mice
try going to safe mode and trying the mouse,,, reboot and start tapping F8 when you see the pc comming back
if you have ps2 type mice, do not unplug or plug in with power on.

I find it quite hard to follow your question the way it is phrased without punctuation but, from my understanding of it,  the problem is that several different mice all react very slowly on the Windows 98se computer, but work OK on an XP computer.

Have you tried changing the mouse properties from the Control Panel > Mouse icon?
There you can set the double-click speed, the pointer (cursor) speed, what cursor shows as the "pointer", and whether it shows pointer trails.

If you have TweakUI installed (you will see an icon in the Control Panel if you have), then there are also mouse settings in there.

Mouse problems can sometimes be caused by problems with the graphics card's driver.  If none of the suggestions work, then try uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver.

Ok tried usb and ps2 both come back with the same results.blinking and slow all 3 mice are optical cord and cordless they all work on my machine and did till about a month ago worked onthe 98se machine.

I have all the settings i neen i,m using logitech wireless optical with fine software hate to keep saying this but till a month ago it was working fine logitech and microsoft said it had to be the hardware i dont know where to look for that the mice just keep disappearing when i run any programs or my wifes games.both mice work fine on my computer with the software.
Figured it out guys had a burnt out port on my com or ps2 of sorts i had a guy come over still dont know what he did but thanks
exactly what i suggested :   >>  you can have a bad ps/2 port, check the plug for bent or broken pins too  <<
