Sharing Files outside The Domain

We have several laptops that logon to our domain.  How can we share files if we take those laptops to a remote site while still logging in normally?

I tried sharing a folder so the other laptop could see it, but it kept prompting me with a username and password box.  I provided the username and password but it would not let me see the share.  Keep in mind that we were not in our usual networked environment.  We were on a separate hub.  We did have assigned IP addresses.  We could ping each other too.  We have no problem accessing these shares on our existing network environment.  Please Help.

What userid and password are you suppling?  You need to have a userid and password that is valid on the computer that is the "server."

Say you have LT1 and LT2, you want to share a directory that is on LT2. You need to create a share for that directory (or you could do the whole drive) and you need to create a userid and password on LT2 that is authorized to use the share.

Now from LT1 you do a net use \\LT2\sharename and when prompted for user id and password provide the one created on LT2.

I tried using the administrator username and password for the server on both laptops for troubleshooting purposes.  I shared a folder on Lt2, I tried accessing that folder from Lt1 using that same administrator username and password, but it won't let me in.
You can't use a userid that is valid on the domain, you create a userid on LT2 and use the userid you created on LT2.

You can only use domain userid's to share resources on member servers of that domain.  LT2 is not a member server it is a desktop, therefore when sharing a resource on LT2 you must use a local userid that is local to LT2.  Think workgroup enviroment, not domain enviroment.

Hi

Make sure you have the right permissions on the share and ntfs permissions
