deleting messages in unattended mailbox

We have an Exchange server 2003 environment with some unattended mailboxes that forward a copy of their messages to an attended mailbox. we need a copy in the unattended box, but only for a certain amount of days.

once the time is up we'd like to know the old messages get deleted in the unattended mailbox only, instead of continuing added to our overall mailstore size.

we found public folders' solution to do so, however for regular mailboxes we cannot find a solution.

Any pointing in a general direction to get this solved would be greatly appreciated!

we are currently not using the mailboxc management tool/policies.

is this the only way? the reason i am hesitant is becasue we have 200+ users, with about 30 more mailboxes and only about 10 of those are the mentioned unattended type.

we really do not want to change anything for the majority of users if at all possible and it seems to be adding these policies their mailboxes might start having disappearing messages due to these proposed policies?

but thanks for the answer, it's a thought, though i am hoping there's still another way?

i am not aware of any other way to automatically delete messages from mailboxes..
maybe u could use some sort of script..

Mailbox manager is the best way. However you don't need to worry about it affecting the other users.
Mailbox manager uses recipient policy. Therefore all you need to do is configure a new recipient policy with a filter on it to pick up the correct mailboxes. Run the system in report only mode to start with, so that you are sure that it is working in the way that you expect, then let it delete the messages.

I do this all the time with certain mailboxes.
