Windows XP Slow Logon away from Domain/Network

Hello,

When I’m away from my network/domain on my laptop. I login as I usually do with my username, password and domain (as I would at work). After about 2 mins of waiting, my system finally logins in to my normal desktop. I know it must be searching for the domain controller, then finally gives up and logs me in. is there a timeout period that XP uses when trying to authenticate to the domain? Can I lesson this timeout period?

Bottom line is I’m impatient and want the system to log in faster when I’m "not online at work". I also want access to my same desktop settings etc and not have to use a local logon profile. Hope this makes sense...thanks for your help.

So make a local account and then copy your domain profile to that account using the user panel in the control panel.  Then log in with that local account.

You are using a local login profile when you aren't connected to the domain anyways.

disabeling the webclient seemed to do the trick. it is about 30 secs faster now upon boot up. the disabling of the netbios did not seen to have an affect. hopfully disabling the webclient wont cause some other issues ;-)
