Blank CD being rejected (mac 10.2)

Hey guys,

I have a problem with an Ibook with MAC OS X 10.4.

When i put a blank cd into the machine it just spins and then repoens the drive (ejectes it)
this does not happen with a cd with content, it has me stumped. Any ideas??? Would be great help.

have a top day

Under System preferences, open the preference for CDs & DVDs.

Look at the setting for "Wen you insert a balnk CD:"

What is it set for?
Does the application shown (if any) actually still exist?
Try reselecting the applicaiton you want to run (in my case Toast) but you could choose iTunes and let the MacOS burning work for you.

Also curious, is it ANY blank CD, or a particular brand, or one particular CD? I assume you have tried other makes and brands? Is it possible it is not truly blank?

leta37,

you didn't answer orrubin's question about your system preferences for CDs & DVDs. that is definitely the place to start.

Sometimes its allways the simplest thing, and I asked myself:

"Does the laptop have a CD Burner and not just a reader?"

As its not my laptop, I had a look... and what would you know? It doesnt have a CD Burner!

Allways the simplest of things...

Thanks for the ideas anywayz...

Ah yes I should! Sorry, Im sorta new to this site, and still working out exactly how it works.
You know, I started to type that in to my answer: "Look at the About This Macintosh and tell me what the hardware config for the drive says. But I figured, no, it must have a writer if she is asking the quesiton.  Glad you figured it out.

Thanks for the assist points.
