I have read a number of times that one thing you should do to increase security on a LAN is to remove the NETBIOS protocol from the network. You do this by manual going to each NIC and disabling it. Every time I disable NETBIOS from a NIC, I can no longer search through My Network Places. A lot of people still use Windows Explorer to search through the network to find resources (for whatever reason).

1) Is disabling NETBIOS an advisable move?
2) How do I disable NETBIOS while still being able to use My Network Places?
