Changing of IP address on Domino Server

I need to change the IP addresses on my network systems, one of which includes my Domino server.  I thought I read once that you can not just change a Domino servers Ip that it would have to be reinstalled, is that correct?
If the server has to be rebuilt can the original mail databases be linked back so that users can access them.  In other words have no distruption in service?

Hi jas4033,
if your DNS is working right you shouldn't have any problems.

Hope this helps,

If your users have Connection documents with specific IP-addresses in them, and not DNS-names, you have to change all Connection documents.
It is best to use DNS names in the Address book. Make the cange there BEFORE doing the IP address change, and make sure it replicates and everything is working.

You will need to clean out the WINS and update your DNS as part of the IP change if this is a Windows server.

Other than that, it should not be an issue on a LAN/WAN if DNS is working.

You may have issues for VPN users who do not have access to DNS or are using IP addresses.
Also you may need to add the new IP into your firewall to give access via VPN or passthru.

Make sure you notify all users who have their home mail server on the server being changed.

Also, if there are issues, doing a Find- replica, and plugging in either the DNS name or P should resolve the issue.

I hope this helps !

Make certain that the network settings in windows is not registering with DNS. You can add the second IP address to the Domino server while it is running with the existing IP address. Unless you are binding the Notes port to a specific IP address once the server restarts it will use all local IP addresses to accept connections.

Create a DNS record for the domino server in your local DNS with the new IP. You can then go to the client machines and remove the connection documents using static IP addresses and update them to use the FQDN.

When I configure new servers I name them with a FQDN, this allows the client to connect without any connection documents. I have moved servers across subnets and have not had any users lose access to their server.

IBM recommends using the FQDN in the server document for the port too instead of the IP address.
