How do I disable Corel Update?
I have CorelDraw 12 & Corel PhotoPaint 12 installed on an XP SP2 system which was reinstalled about 2 months ago.
On my previous install both programs used to start up and just work.
On my new install, starting either program causes Corel Update to run, which pops up it's own application Windows and also a browser tab in Firefox -- this is somewhat annoying as I don't need Corel update to run 10 times a day just to tell me I don't need any updates!!!
I I have run out of ideas trying to find a way to turn it off - but it must be doable - how?

I can't find it in the options menu -- if you know where it is please be specific, as I've looked for it for ages.
It doesn't start when Windows starts, so msconfig doesn't mention it.

I do not have CorelDraw in front of me. Here is some info
CorelDRAW 9 lets users update "Corel on the Web" links on a regular basis. The Update command, a new option in the Help menu, gives users the latest list of Internet links from Corel. This fist of links includes any program update information, news, and special offers and opportunities from Corel.

So look under the Help menu.

I'm using version 12
I've tried in-built help (Update is no longer accessed from help menu anyway)
I've tried Corel website
I've tried Google
I've looked throughout the option system
Asking here was/is last resort.

If I try that I get "missing file CorUpd.exe"
In that case, browse to:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Graphics 12\Programs\
See if you can find anything along the lines of "Update" or anything resembling the "Corupd.exe" and run it manually.

Running such a file gives "Invalid Command Parameter"
- The "update" which occurs on each application invokation still runs as described above.
(Main Corel applications are running as smooth as ussuall though)

Will Hudson's instructions worked after restoring the relevant file & shortcut .... the .exe cannot be run directly, only via the link in start menu due to parameters embedded in the shortcut.
Hopefully the X3 release will behave better (not upgrading yet though)

Go to CorelDraw preference menu and disable the auto update.
If you cannot find it, disable CorelDraw update from starting up when Windows start. Go to Start > Run and type msconfig
Look for CorelDraw update and disable it.
Best wishes!
