I need to build a Help / Documentation for our support team to refer to when helping our customer. Since this is going to be for one customer only, I am thinking of something light, searchable, supports different text formattings, and support graphics.

Many software comes with .chm file, I am not sure if this compatible and portable (eg. anyone can take the chm file and open it on their Win9x, ME, 2000, XP, etc systems without needing to install extra software) with most systems.

I don't want to type in MS Word document and having our team members looking through it at emergency hours which solution is needed quickly.

Please suggest something, thank you.

In my opinion the best option would be to save in pdf format. I'd use openoffice to create the files, then you can easily save as or export to pdf format. The advantage of pdf is that it is portable and you don't have to use it on a m$ plattform.
