What I meant to say was that I it wasn't the mute button - it was that I had the wrong recording device set up.<br />

I have a &quot;sound blaster live&quot; sound card whose microphone port is broken. I know because when I try to record my voice on my computer by plugging my microphone into the Mic port on the sound card, the recording program I'm using &amp;#8211; &quot;Total Recorder&quot; - shows me on it's display that it's not picking up any sound. <br />

Must my voice pass thru a sound card to get recorded &amp;#8211; can't I get one of those USB mikes and record my voice by plugging the mike into a usb port?<br />
