Diskpar.exe utility
I understand the reason for using the Dispar utility when building a new Exchange server. I don't understand how to use it on the system partition-Drive 0. If it wipes out the entire partition running Windows, then you don't have an OS to run the program under. Also, it sounds like the utility is only useful for the system partition because it contains the MBR which offsets everything. Is there any reason to run the utility on any other logical drive?

Yes, I have already read that info. I understand that diskpar realigns the sector/track alignment. What I want to know is:
1) How do I use the utility on the System partition if it's going to wiipe out everything
2) If the MBR causes the offset, is the utitlity necessary on any other physical (logical) drive besides the drive the MBR is located on?

It is possible to run this utility, booting with a boot CD or boot disk. Barts http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/cdrom/ or Bootdisk.com are the two leading sites. From there you can put in the disk or CD that contains diskpar, and align the tracks, format, and then install the Operating System. Just do not reformat the disk from within the setup screen for the OS.

Thanks Bob,
It sounds like I can't use HP's SmartStart disk to configure the new server if I want to use Diskpar.
Any ideas on question #2? If the MBR causes the offset, why would partitions on other physical disks become misaligned?
