Citrix - Help

To all Citrix Experts:

Here are my questions and would appreciate if you can answer them accordingly.

1. We have Citrix MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 with Windows 2000 Server. What should I upgrade to if I wanted to upgrade? Which version of Citrix?

2. We are thinking about getting a new hardware for a new server. Should we get Windows 2003 64 bit Server or the latest version of Windows 2003? Which version in specific and which will run best with the new Citrix version software?

3. Windows Terminal Server was part of Windows 2000 server before. Is that also true for the new version of Windows 2003 Server? If yes which version in specific? Does one need to get Terminal License for all clients that are Windows XP or no. With Windows 2000 and Terminal server that was not the case.

4. Is there a good an thorough site on how to install the newest version of Citrix other than the Citrix website?

5. With the newest version of Citrix whichever version that is can one synch Outlook to a PDA from a remote machine where the user logs in?

6. What are the hardware requirements for the Citrix newest version?

7. What are the differences between the different versions of Citrix? Which one one really gets?

Please be thoroudh and detailed in your response as much as possible to get the full marks.

Thank you for the response. For windows 2003 should I be ok with the standard version or the enterprise version? Also there are 20 users total for Citrix so now can you tell me answers for number 6?

The PDA sync issue. How does that work really? Each client uses the citrix client to access the applications including outlook. How does outlook within Citrix sync to PDA, Blackberry etc?
Windows 2003 Standard should be fine.

Still depending on the apps you have going to be published and what else is all running on this server (exchange, is the acting as a File Server).  Some apps are more intensive then others but you should be alright with 1 Citrix Server for that specs really depend on budget but personally I recommend at least dual processors,  4 gig mem,  and enough HD Space to accomadate for growth.  I currently run DL380's as my Citrix boxes.  With a DL 580 as my FS and Web Interface.

Citrix PS4 supports USB connected PDAs.
Earlier versions of Citrix, or just plain Windows 2003 Terminal
Services, support only serial connections.

Install the HotSync software on the server, like any other
application, and make sure that local port redirection is enabled.

PS4 needs a hotfix, which is (temporarily?) removed from the
Citrrix website:

CTX106625 - Updated Requirements for PDA Synchronization Support in
Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 http://knowledgebase.citrix.com/kb/..nalID=CTX106625
I am installing the Presentation Server 4.0. I was able to install the 4.0 and its components but it will not install two of its components --- Web interface and and Metaframe Presentation Server....

The error I get is Internal Error 2318 c:\pagefile.sys??? Any ideas anyone???

The server that I am installing has Windows 2003 R2 with all the latest patches and IIS, Terminal, DNS, WINS, DHCP etc already installed.

Please provide soem suggestions if you have run into this issue.
I am not sure what your saying.  If PS 4 is installed what Metaframe Presentation Server are your trying to install?

Are you installing the Web Interface onto one of the Citrix Boxes?
Well I have not been able to install the entire PS4. It has several components. It will not install the Web Interface and the main PS4. The error I get is Internal Error 2318 c:\pagefile.sys??? Any ideas anyone???

The windows OS is 2003 and Microsoft Terminal Server is installed. Other components of PS4 was done but it gave errors as said the Web Interface and Presentation Metaframe Server failed.
Are you trying to install this Remotely from RDP?  That could be an issue.

Also are all updates installed on the Windows Server?  This appears to be a Windows or IIS error and not a Citrix Error.  In doing some searches this also only appears to happen to other people when installing the Web Interface.

You may try installing the PS Server and then doing the Web Interface after.  Not running them all together.
No I am at the server and not installing it remotely.  All the updates are installed on the Windows 2003 Server. This happens in the middle of the Citrix Installing when it gets stuck on Web Interface and PS Server quits saying internal error and install has been haulted. I have tried them separately as well.
I was able to install now the Web Interface after I rebooted a few times. Now I am still not able to install the Metaframe Presentation Sever as it says that the IE security is too high and then it asks to change which I click ok to and then it goes through but then half way it does a roolback and then gives an error that it was unsuccessful due to premature error. Any ideas????
I would change your IE Security Settings lower and see if this helps.
That still does not helo and now it give me 10001 error...permanent fatal error and then the entire install process roles back.
To be exact the error is as follows:

"Installation ended prematurely because of an error"

"Error 10001. Installation of Metaframe Presentation Server failed. Do you want to continue with the installation of the next components".

I have been able to successully install everything else except the main Metaframe Presentation Server.
Could this be part of your issue?  Sounds like you have a multilingual system?

It should not be. I did see this and tried this but did not help. What am I doing wrong here?

Suggestion was following:

Msiexec /i “<path to mps.msi>” CTX_MF_AUTH_USERS_GROUP="transalation of NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" /l*v “<path to log file>”.

I tried this:

Msiexec /i “<c:\temp\metaframe presentation server\mps.msi>” CTX_MF_AUTH_USERS_GROUP="Domain Users" /l*v “<c:\temp\install.log>”

It did not help. Is there any syntax error ???
The word after Msiexec is that i or L? also the /l*v is that i or L???? I am sure there is something wrong but cannot tell what?
It is an I as in idol.  Do you have the mps.msi in the  I don't think you need the <> in the statement.

Msiexec /i “<path to mps.msi>” CTX_MF_AUTH_USERS_GROUP="transalation of NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" /l*v “<path to log file>”.

Replace transalation of NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users by the correct translated named as shown in the Local Users and Groups snap-in on the server.

French: AUTORITE NT\Utilisateurs Authentifiés

German: NT-Autorität\Authentifizierte Benutzer

Spanish: NT AUTHORITY\Usuarios autenticados
It does not work. Well this is a domain controller and as such there is no such thing as Local Users and Groups snap-in on the server. What is the exact replacement if lets say there is a group called Citrix Users in teh Active Directory. I ahve tried with and without quotes.

If multi-language is such an issue how can I simply make it english only? Where can I download the english only version of Presentation Server.
Can you Remote Desktop into this server?
I just reread your statement why would you try to install on a Domain Controller?  Is this the only server available.  It is very Bad Practice to use a DC as an application server.

According to the below links after PS3 Svc Pack 4 and all products afterward you can't install Citrix on a DC.

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX106529&searchID=17486563

I believe it also states it in the Administrators Guide.
So what you are saying is that I should not install Active Directory on this server and just leave it as a standard server??? Should I install the application server or leave that as well. Should it only have standard server with IIS, Terminal, DNS, DHCP and WINS loaded then?

It will be easier if you told me when you installed the Citrix Server 4.0 on a Windows 2003 Standard Version what all did you install extra?
You can install everything but AD
