Microsoft IIS Web Server

We need to change the hostname of our SSL enabled IIS6 web server.   It usually takes a few days to get our SSL certificates once we request them (DOD).  The server cannot be down for several days.   So as I understand it, I need to temporarily rename the server, generate the key request under the new name, then rename the server back to the original name while I wait for the reqeust to get approved.   When I generate a new key request, won't I "break" the original SSL certificate?

My question is, how do I change the host name of an IIS 6.0 server without disrupting the use of SSL.

Thanks.
