What ports do I need to open for VPN to a Watchguard X700 using PPTP

I need to connect to a Watchguard X700 VPN Connection. I am told I need TCP port 1723 Open. I have that open but from our end they still cant connect.

The connection seems to get half way but does not seem authenticate them

By default we have to block everything outbound.

Sounds like the Watchguard isn't automatically allowing the GRE protocol.  Allow this protocol outbound (& possibly inbound, depending on how intelligent the Watchguard is).

Are you connecting to the router, i.e are you using the router as a VPN endpoint or passing through to a VPN server behind the WatchGuard. If the router is the VPN endpoint there is no need to forward anything, however if a VPN server behind the WatchGuard you will need to forward PPTP and GRE traffic to the VPN server device, as mentioned by calvinetter.  PPTP being TCP port 1723, and GRE being protocol 47 (not port 47). I am not familiar with the X700's, but on their SOHO and SOHO6 models you were able to use the Firewall to create a rules for TCP, UDP or Protocol #. You should be able to set one up there for GRE.
Having said that, I thought the WatchGuards allowed GRE traffic by default.
